Walter Hugo Schuster was born on 18 Sep 1907 in Mödling (Wien). He died on 27 Nov 1970 in Laren NH. Walter married Elisabeth Johanna Maria Pauwels in 1946.

Walter has studied hydro-biology at the Josephum, a school in Mödling. He couldn't find work in the 1930-1940 period, with deep economic recession, As many others, Walter left Europe to find work elsewhere. Using dice, it was decided that Walter
would go to Indonesia, -Dutch Indies in those days. His alternative was South America. His father collected postage stamps
and had many friends persuing the same hobby. One of those offered him a job in Indonesia. It took six years to become a
Dutch subject, this is not a citizen, but similar to the way the indonesians themselves were considered Dutch subjects. Walter
met Els Pauwels (Elizabeth, 26 december 1911) in Surabaya, where the lived in the same hotel/pension. Walter was recruited
for the "Landstorm", captured by the Japanese and only in 1946 the met again. Walter's army number was 206207.
